“I Became a Minister” is the testimony of Paul to the Christians in Colossae. It is easy to look at the life and letters of Paul and recognize that he was clearly a minister (diakonos). I am grateful for the “ministers” that God has placed in my life, especially my Dad. And there have been many others who have discipled me at various times in my life.  Many of these, however, would not have thought of themselves as “ministers.” They were (and are) just Sunday School teachers, youth leaders, classmates, and friends who brought God’s Word to bear on my life.

Do you think of yourself as a minister? You are. If you have been made new in Christ Jesus, if He lives in you, you are absolutely a minister – one who serves. Jesus calls us to leave our comfort zone, step out in faith, and obediently serve Him. Ephesians four calls this doing “the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ.” And it is every believer’s calling.

In Colossians 1:24-2:5 we’ll learn a lot about the calling Jesus has given us, what we can expect as we follow Him, the right motivations for service, and how to develop a heart for God’s glory and the good of others.  Fun days! I look forward to worshiping with you!
